First of all, it is not necessary to try to "reinvent the wheel".  It is not 
necessary to try to figure it out "from scratch".  The procedure to hear the 
very voice of God has been around for hundreds of years.

Realize that even though God is also, in a manner of speaking, Universal 
Consciousness, and can be accurately described in other impersonal terms 
such as "Light", "Love", "All Knowing", "All Powerful", and "Omnipresent", 
that He is also a very real personage with feelings, plans, and desires.  He 
knows you, your name, and how many hairs are on (or NOT on) your head.  He 
has a plan for your life which takes into account your type of mistakes, 
others' wrongs toward you, and the government and religion under which you 
were born, even atheism.

(By the way, WANTING to hear God's voice also implies you are willing to 
OBEY His voice. . . )

Know you are TOUGHER than you THINK you are.  You CAN handle more than you 
think you can.  You CAN overcome greater obstacles than you realize. All 
with the teamwork help involved in uniting with God.  Hearing and obeying 
His voice makes you "invincible" until it is your time to leave Earth for 
the spirit world (or God allows you to leave early, so don't "test it").

[Now, this next part is to PROTECT you from false voices (yes, there are 
FALSE voices, dummy):

Know that God wrote, through inspired human hands, a "Manufacturer's 
Handbook".  We commonly call it "The Bible".  It is a collection of writings 
about the Earth and mankind spanning 6 thousand years.  It is a "barometer" 
that you are hearing the Voice of God correctly.  Do not stop and worship 
the Bible. Worship the One Who wrote the Bible.  If you do not understand 
what it says, close it up and ask God to teach you directly, using other 
people's sermons, books, and lives as barometers of what God is teaching 
you!  Do not stop and worship the people, books, or sermons!  That is a 
waste of valuable time.  This brings us back to the main subject. . How to 
Hear the Voice of God yourself.

Be a believer with as much belief as you can muster in the God of the 
Universe, the Creator, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of 
Love, the ONLY LIVING GOD -  His name is Jehovah.

Believe with as much belief as you can muster in the Son of Jehovah.  His 
name is Jesus Christ, Who is both a historical figure AND a Spirit-Being.  
He is part of God along with the Holy Spirit of God.  A Trinity.  Three in 
one - like water.  Water is one.  But it is in 3 forms - solid, liquid, and 
gaseous.

Receive Jesus into your heart.  He allowed Himself to be brutally killed and 
raised HImself from the dead - to get your attention for one reason, also 
for the universal legal total forgiveness of any of your wrongs - AND for 
your healing - body, soul, and spirit.  By the way, YOU are a spirit being 
who LIVES in a physical body who OWNS a soul, which is made up of mind, 
will, and emotions.  Jesus also died and was raised so that you can have an 
incredible, positive life of destiny!

Be sorry for all the wrongs you have done to yourself and to others.  
Forgive (at least want to want to forgive) all those wrongs done to you by 
othersl  Grudges ae not worth it.  My long time friend stated that, "My self 
pity never served me, never served me well at all.  It was a waste of time". 
  Now make whatever restitution you can for the wrongs you have done and 
tell others that you forgive them.

Tell someone you believe in Jesus and want Him living inside of you. Tell 
someone you believe (from 1 - 10 on a scale of 10).  Be water baptized if 
you haven't already.  Just because He asks you to.  Pray for and receive and 
thank Him also for the baptism of the Holy Spirit.  Opening up to that 
reality provides a great many spiritual tools that can be used to develop in 
the spirit and help others, too.  More on that later.

NOW

Jesus the Christ the Spirit Being the Son of the LIving God literally lives 
inside you, inside your spirit in your belly and within you is literally the 
VOICE OF THE LIVING GOD.  Within your spirit.  don't worry.  There's room 
inside your spirit for Him.  You let Him live with you now and He'll let you 
live with Him later!  God is large enough to hang stars in the heavens like 
you hang Christmas ornaments on a Christmas tree, but is small enough to fit 
inside a man's beating heart.

Now think back - was there ever a time you felt/discerned that God WAS 
talking to you?  Think.  Make sure you now do/say/go to whatever it was He 
said. Can you thnk of any more?  Take care of these things before you take 
another step forward.

Begin to constantly thank God for all the good in your life. Constantly 
thank God also, either IN SPITE of any bad things in your life, or FOR all 
the bad thing in your life, for WHATEVER GOOD He can bring out of them.  
(Depending on how badly you are hurting.)

Verbally or written, thank others for their help, resources, opportunities 
provided, or encouragement that enabled you to make it this far.

NOW

You are ready on a minute-by-minute daily basis or an hour-by-hour nighttime 
basis, to let God talk to you, show you things in the spirit by a flash of 
picture, a dream or a vision (like a dream except yu are awake).  He will 
lead you into Love, Joy, Peace, Goodness, Long-suffering, Brotherly 
Kindness, and More.  He will show you the future and tell you who to pray 
for and when. He will give you a steady livelihood.  He will explain to you 
your purpose for being created.  He will bring you to other peope and bring 
other people to you to further the process.  When you walk into a church, 
the sermon topic will not surprise you, it will be a cororboration of what 
the Lord Jesus has already been talking to you about that morning. . .

Remember in the world there are only 2 kinds of people - Believers, and 
Unbelievers (Scoffers)...

AND

There are 2 kinds of Believers:

Martyrs - too good for this world and usually leave early.
Overcomers - usually have some degree of earthly success along with 
spiritual insights to teach others.

Remember the state of Earth today is also in a deterioration of the ability 
to hear and obey the Voice of God.  SO DON'T BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU HEAR ON 
TV OR FROM OTHERS OR READ IN A MAGAZINE OR NEWSPAPER!

BE DISCERNING!  PRAY WITHOUT CEASING!  LEARN MORE ABOUT GOD THROUGH THE 
BIBLE AND GOOD CHRISTIAN FOLKS!  JOIN A CHURCH!  ESPECIALLY JOIN A PRAYER 
GROUP!
